MAD! Day 7

One of the big icons of the second generation of movie monsters (the Universal era being the first gen), Freddy Krueger discovered a strange way to survive as sequels watered down the story - and that was dark humor. Mixing over the top fantastical murders (the best ones where the ones that really took advantage of it being a dream) with a grim wit, 

Like his larger camp-killer counterpart, Freddy did suffer as the series reached its end, as the writers felt compelled to add to the mythos and expand on what was a great concept. Though the original set of films did end on a high point with New Nightmare, a film that probably does the “meta-horror” angle the best.
